A Celebration of Reading and Writing in Moab
October 21 - 23, 2010

Confluence: A Celebration of Reading and Writing in Moab, UT runs Thursday, Oct. 21st through Saturday, Oct. 23rd, 2010. The theme for 2010 is WATER, and our visiting authors are Debra Frasier, Craig Childs, William deBuys, and Jack Loeffler.

Debra Frasier is an award winning children's author who teaches workshops on creating picture books and children's literature. She wrote a beautiful children's book entitled, The Incredible Water Show, and teaches writing and illustration workshops for both children and adults. Debra's programs are supported by the Utah Humanities Council and are FREE for all participants.

Craig Childs is visiting between his many international travels and will share his adventures with glaciers, deserts, wild rivers, and writing about the outdoors. His book, The Secret Knowledge of Water was chosen as the Moab Reads selection for 2010. Childs will also introduce his latest book Finders Keepers, a Tale of Archeological Plunder and Obsession.

Jack Loeffler continues his highly original work on watershed thinking and ethics of water issues, Watersheds As Commons.  This year, Jack offers a class on aural history and how it can shape thinking. He also shares his research and audio recordings of today's most exciting thinkers.

William deBuys, Pulitzer Prize finalist, offers a rare writing workshop on building characters. DeBuys is currently writing A Great Aridness, which examines the precariousness of life in the Southwest and the likely impact on the region of climate change, which promises to transform the Southwest as emphatically as it is already altering the Arctic.

Visit beautiful Moab, UT to listen to exciting authors and scholars, take a writing class, and enjoy discussions on current water issues. Telluride's Mountainfilm returns on Oct. 22nd, and we have an evening of dance, music, video and stories planned for Saturday night that will knock your socks off.

"Now listen to this--our water is OLD! It's so old that the water you sip at supper could be the very same water that giant dinosaurs lapped up from the clear lakes of long ago."
