Environmental Writing and Ed Abbey

Welcome to Confluence, 2008 where we celebrate reading, writing, and the work of Edward Abbey. Come to Moab, UT in October for 5 days of prose, poetry, discusssion, film, and fun in the outdoors.

Confluence consists of 2 main events: an Intensive Writing Workshop and a weekend of readings, discussion, and art for readers and writers of all ages. The Intensive Writing Workshop, October 14th - 17th, is a chance to study with 3 of today's best authors. Classes take place both indoors and out, and registration is required for space is limited. See Intensive Writing Workshops for more information.

The weekend, October 17th-19th, is packed with all manner of events to enjoy with the entire family. Most events are free and open to the public. Whether you want to hear modern authors read their own work or share thoughts about Ed Abbey and the environment, we have something for you. Enjoy gallery events. See films. Listen to those who knew Ed Abbey well. Engage in short writing workshops. Listen to scholars. Please see our constantly updated schedule of events.

The ONLY events that require registration and tickets are the Intensive Writing Workshop and the Hikes with Doug Peacock and Craig Childs. Everything else is free and open to the public.

A quote from Ed Abbey

Ed's Cadillac.
Ed's Cadillac.

For his 60th birthday, Edward Abbey purchased this 1975 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible.  You too can now own this (in)famous vehicle. As a fundraiser for Confluence, Ed's car will be awarded to the first person to offer a $26,000 donation. The car runs well and is sold as is.
