Judges

The 2010 Judging panel will be announced in the summer.

The 2009 Confluence Writing Contest Judging panel included:

Andy Nettell is the owner of three bookstores in Moab, UT, including Back of Beyond Books, which specializes on books on the southwest and Edward Abbey and friends. When not reading he enjoys hiking and biking. Andy is a founding board member of Confluence.

Nancy Kurtz is a Moab writer, musician, and astrologer. An import from the East Coast who has lived in the West since 1973, she served 15-year stints in both Aspen and Telluride, Colorado before moving to the red rock desert in 2003. A journalist and editor by trade (although somewhat of a mystic by human design), her editorial experience ranges widely from financial coverage (Forbes and Institutional Investor magazines) to the glories of the tourist industry (editor of Aspen the Magazine during the 80s). While in Telluride, she was an environmental activist with the Sheep Mountain Alliance and wrote an environmental column for the Telluride Daily Planet.

These days, she enjoys hiking, qi gong, playing keyboards and warbling with Phil Dirt (Moab's largest garage band). She is writing her first novel as well as bi-monthly astrological observations based on the phases of the moon. A member of the Moab Poets and Writers, Nancy helped birth the regional writers' anthology Glyphs III in 2007.
